Being a Specialist Centre of excellence for continuing education, debates, and research, its work focuses on Maritime law, Transport law, Environmental Shipping law, Marine Insurance, European Maritime law, Finance, and related subjects.

LSLC has actively pursued its objectives during the last ten years since its inception. In particular:

  • It delivers continuing professional education to the shipping industry, the legal profession and students
  • It promotes reform in shipping law and international regulation
  • It undertakes research either by projects or the writing of its members and participants in the events
  • It brings together the different disciplines of the practice of academic law, of maritime commerce, and the business of shipping
  • It informs and advises on current legal issues and global problems concerning maritime safety and security
  • It enables the concerns of the shipping industry to be heard openly on a neutral platform
  • It motivates, stimulates and promotes dialogue
  • It raises general awareness of maritime risk management and thus helps to promote higher standards in shipping services
  • It is a nucleus for further learning through the knowledge and research of experts
  • It promotes London’s role as a leading centre in shipping services and related industries, the law, and maritime policy
  • It is a unique Centre in the UK, which aims to enhance the image of the shipping industry in the UK and abroad
